Vincent Kompany – There Was No Wrongful Intention In Tackling Aaron Lennon Malice

“It certainly was not on purpose. I think I have my studs fitted on the leg, but it goes to the ball.” Vincent Kompany insists that there was no harm in his controversial challenge on Aaron Lennon in Manchester City’s defeat of Burnley on Saturday. Burnley boss Sean Dyche believed the city captain should have been sent out for his big challenge at Lennon in the first minute at the Etihad Stadium.

Lennon could continue on treatment and after that, he could play, but Dyche also revealed that the Clarets wing wanted to have two stitches in a wound on the thigh. Kompany said, “It was definitely was not on purpose. The things happening a somewhat blindside. I think I have my studs on the leg, but it goes to the ball. “I think I got it and luckily he was not hurt. That’s the most important thing.” City took advantage of winning 5-0 and keeping their place at the top of the Premier League.

FULHAM GET FIRST WIN OF THE SEASON

Premier League new boys Fulham have gotten their first win of the season with a 4-2 victory over Burnley. Coach Slavisa Jokanovic would be excited that the team got the win, and would hope it would really kickstart more positive results this season.

The free flowing fast game saw six goals netted in all. Despite 12 players joining in the summer, the club was not able to get the results they hoped in the first two games.  Jean Michael Seri got the chance to prove why he was one of the hottest properties in the transfer market this summer with a screamer. Aleksandar Mitrovic grabbed a brace to make it 15 goals since he joined in February.

Aaron Lennon grateful for Burnley chance

England international Aaron Lennon has admitted that he has started enjoying the beautiful game after making the move to Burnley during the previous transfer window. The 31-year-old had struggled to gain regular gametime during the backend of his Everton career and there was a period where Lennon was hospitalised with depression concerns.

Despite this, he has managed to revive his footballing career and the winger admits he has made the right choice to link up with Sean Dyche’s side, he said: “Probably for the last four or five years, I was not enjoying my football but for the period since joining Burnley [in January], I am really enjoying it again. I wouldn’t have said that I’d fallen out of love with football, but I’ve been through long periods of not being involved in the squads.

Lennon headed towards Spurs Exit

England international Aaron Lennon could be heading towards an exit from Tottenham in the January transfer window after failing to secure a move in the summer. The 27-year-old does not seem to figure in the plans of manager Mauricio Pochettino. Even though he has made three appearances this campaign, the overwhelming interest from neighbours QPR could alter his destination in the next few months. Lennon has been at Tottenham since 2005 and has made close to 300 league appearances for the club during this period. Pochettino, however, has made it clear that he wants to work with a squad of just 25 players including the goalkeeper.
Tottenham have one of the biggest squads in the division and this perhaps could have contributed to the poor start to the season. Pochettino is under pressure after getting just two wins from the opening five matches. Tottenham are also without a win in the last three, a run that has also seen them get defeated at the hands of league strugglers like West Brom. If the Europa League matches are taken into account, then Tottenham are without a win in the last four matches. The honeymoon period for Pochettino could be over before it begins if this poor form continues. Lennon’s sale would bring in around £ 7 million which can be used to strengthen the team elsewhere.
QPR offered a way out for the England international during the summer, but that was not enough time to conclude the deal, as it came on transfer deadline day. QPR are still struggling in the Premier League and have just one win in the campaign so far. This could be a potential stumbling block since it is unlikely that Lennon would want to play in the Championship in case QPR are relegated this campaign, which appears a distinct possibility.

SPURS SUFFER

A few weeks ago Tottenham travelled to Anfield to face off against Liverpool and the side of Tim Sherwood suffered a devastating 4-0 loss. This negative result arrived at a time when the manager of Tottenham, Sherwood already was under immense pressure as speculation arose concerning the future of the tactician.

Sherwood replaced Andre Villas-Boas and he enjoyed a fairly successful start of his career in charge of the team in the White Hart Lane but a series of disappointing results now sees Tottenham not being able to get into a top 5 spot in the Premier League.

At this point in time everybody knows the disastrous campaign that David Moyes is sustaining with Manchester United as they are not even close on protecting the Premier League title but Tottenham are just a few points above the mediocre Manchester United which is evidence of how much Tottenham has been slipping in the past few months.

Following the 4-0 defeat against Liverpool, rumors began spreading claiming that Tim Sherwood had punched a player in the dressing room and the rumor gained so much momentum that even the family of the tactician started to believe it.

“I was getting family and friends texting me saying: ‘Why did you do it?’,” Sherwood said with a smile. “They didn’t say: ‘Did you?’ It was all ‘Who did you hit, who did you hit?’ The players know I want the best for the club and that helps them out because it means I want the best for them. I am not going to suffer fools though. That is the way I manage.”

The rumors had escalated to a point where his own players had to stand up and defend Sherwood as Roberto Soldado and Aaron Lennon denied that anything of that nature had happened at all.

FIGHTING

Along with Swansea City, the side of Tim Sherwood is the only Premier League teams which are fighting to get into the next stages of the Europa League. Tottenham has to go against the Ukrainian team Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk on February 20 at the Dnipro-Arena.

The holy grail of European competitions is without doubt the Champions League as all the major clubs are going head to head with each other, from Barcelona to Bayern Munich it’s a royal rumble of world class players from almost anywhere you look at it but even though the Europa League does not receive the same amount of praise, it still is a tournament where it is highly rated by many players and coaches including Tim Sherwood as he expressed his feelings about the tournament.

Tim Sherwood said, “I love the Europa League. There are a lot of games coming up but we haven’t got to worry about that. We’re out of the rest of the competitions and we’ve got a big enough squad here to cope’’.

“There will be opportunities for other people to play because the games will come thick and fast and you’re playing on Thursday and Sunday. You’re going to have to rest a few or maybe just change the selection.”

Tottenham is behind Liverpool in the Premier League having 3 points disadvantage but they are hoping to secure a higher spot in the tables that can allow them to finish the current campaign on a positive note and hopefully even take hold of a Champions League position for the upcoming season. Sherwood has a fairly busy schedule ahead of him but he is confident about the strength and width that his team is capable of demonstrating in the next few weeks and month as they have to go against Chelsea and Arsenal on consecutive matches.
